Dopamine Dressing in 2024

What it means and how we’re going to do it

A term usually associated with summer, dopamine dressing is commonly misconstrued to mean wearing bright colours and patterns, however, that’s not the case.

Dopamine dressing is the process of finding joy in the things you choose to wear. Whatever the fit, style or trend, if it boosts your mood and gives you a rush of happiness when you stand back to look in the mirror, that’s the vibe.

Here’s how we’re going to make dopamine dressing a daily ritual in our lives throughout 2024:

Numbers Are Just Numbers

For too long women have been convinced to believe the number that’s on the label of their clothing defines their worth. We say no more! With the constant confusion caused by the difference in sizes in shops on the high street, it’s like we’re fighting a battle that we just can’t win. So we’re not fighting anymore.

Instead of picking up a size 12 pair of jeans and feeling sad when they won’t go over your bum, grab a size 14 and 16 to try. Remember, you deserve to look and feel your best, whatever your shape or size.

Blinkers Are Our New Accessory

It’s exhausting trying to keep up with the latest trends, seeing what celebrities are wearing and what’s being praised by fashion critics on Instagram. From now on, we’re working with our own style, screw whatever’s classed as “cool”.

As long as we’re leaving the house with a bounce in our step because we feel amazing in what we’re wearing, that’s all that matters.

Choosing Kindness

This is going to be arguably the hardest habit to break, but it’s the most important one. We’re choosing kindness. Not specifically for anyone else, but for ourselves.

When we find ourselves pointing out flaws and criticising our bodies, we need to pump the brakes and think, is this something we’d say to our best friend? Would you tell them that their belly’s sticking out in their dress? Or that their boobs look small in their top?

I certainly hope not. So don’t say it to yourself! Instead of focusing on the negatives, train yourself to focus on the positives and you’ll gradually start to become your own biggest cheerleader.
